Despite Apple Inc. having only recently released its latest Quicktime update (7.4.) , the California-based computer specialist has today popped up to push out a slightly tweaked version of the update, which supposedly addresses some unspecified “security issues” while also handily providing improved “compatibility with third-party applications.”

While most Quicktime users will likely accept the improved update without a second thought and continue about their day, the tech boffins over at Ars Technica note that those professionally reliant on Adobe AfterEffects will probably be more readily inclined to cease the stream of expletives they’ve been venting in Apple’s direction since it issued the 7.4. update.
More specifically, it would appear that the Quicktime 7.4. update played holy hell with Adobe’s popular application, leaving users to either downgrade their software or find another (update-free) system in order to continue working. Posted feedback on the Apple discussion board seems to indicate that the arrival of Quicktime 7.4.1. does indeed remedy the compatibility issues with AfterEffects.
The security issue addressed by the arrival of Quicktime 7.4.1. sees a fix yet again applied to the much talked about RTSP tunnelling bug that was supposedly put to bed through the initial 7.4. update. The bug exists (or rather ‘existed’) as an arbitrary code execution that was susceptible to malicious manipulated by an outside source or Web site via the Windows or Mac OS X operating systems.
Quicktime users will no-doubt receive notification of the available download, courtesy of Apple’s update service. Unsurprisingly, Quicktime 7.4.1. is recommended for all users of Quicktime 7. Beyond Windows compatibility, Apple’s adjusted update is also available on Leopard, Tiger, and Panther operating systems.
