With a mobile phone market crammed to the rafters by a wealth of choice, it’s often difficult to know where to begin when selecting the right handset. In the main, going for renowned, award-winning brands is generally a solid platform to spring from when taking the consumer plunge, which is where the W910 Walkman phone conveniently comes in.

Of course, if you’re looking for a heavyweight smartphone, perhaps you’d be better served by Nokia’s powerhouse N95. Similarly, if traffic-stopping style and innovative features are your particular bag, then Apple’s touch-screen iPhone is well worth considering. But, if you want a phone built for simple entertainment, then Sony Ericsson’s W910 Walkman is the device of choice.
At least, that’s what Sony Ericsson is currently shouting from the rooftops following the W910 Walkman scooping the “Best Handset” award at the recent GSM Association’s 13th Global Mobile Awards 2008.
“We are very proud to receive such a prestigious award for what has proved to be a very popular product,” beamed Dick Komiyama, Sony Ericsson President. “The W910 Walkman makes it quicker and easier to transfer or download music. It’s also about thinking beyond music, to games, videos and the Web.”
While consumers won’t receive an accompanying gong of prestige should they opt for the slimline W910, Sony is at least willing to deliver a 2.4-inch 320 x 240 pixel TFT QVGA display screen, a 2.0 mega pixel camera, picture and video blogging, media browser and Media Manager PC software.
The UMTS/HSDPA phone is built around Sony Ericsson’s Java Platform 8 (JP-8) technology and offers Bluetooth 2.0, USB 2.0, SMS, EMS, MMS, Instant Messaging, e-mail access, and a WAP 2.0 Web browser.
The W910 allows multimedia fans to take advantage of Shake control in order to directionalflick the handset and govern the control of games or skip and shuffle between music tracks. The handset also comes complete with 1GB of memory courtesy of an included Memory Stick Micro capable of holding approximately 900 song tracks.
Sony Ericsson’s award-winning W910 Walkman handset, which officially launched in the summer of 2007, comes in Hearty Red, Noble Black, and Havana Bronze. The Walkman phone brand has sold in excess of 57 million units since it arrived in August of 2005, so prospective consumers will certainly be in good company should they choose to invest.
