Just 2 days after Toshiba and Universal made the decision to stop supporting the HD DVD format, Paramount made an official announcement that they would be moving over to the Blu-ray camp and will be using the format for future titles.
"We are pleased that the industry is moving to a single high-definition format, as we believe it is in the best interest of the consumer," the studio stated.
"As we look to (begin) releasing our titles on Blu-ray, we will monitor consumer adoption and determine our release plans accordingly."
No other plans from the studio have been disclosed as of this time such as the timeframe of the transition to the Blu-ray format or what will happen to Paramount's subsidiary Dreamworks. But with all of the columns officially being torn down, one can only expect that all studios will shift over.
With all major retailers, rental outlets, and now full studio support, I think it is safe to say that Blu-ray is the official victor of this so called 'format war'. Consumers can now make the decision to buy into a high definition medium without being afraid.
