The consumer freedoms associated with late-night shopping took a rather nasty turn in Serbia last week in the wake of violent protests against Western support for Kosovo’s declaration of independence.

Specifically, an opportunistic cameraman filming during a hectic wave of high-street looting in the Serbian capital city of Belgrade has captured the illegal antics of two young women intent on liberating as many illicitly-gained goods as possible during the melee.
The clip has since been posted to video-sharing Web site YouTube, where the actions of the women have been massively chastised by site visitors after watching the pair helping themselves to designer bags, shoes and clothes from a selection of Belgrade’s more desirable retail locations.
The clip has also been aired on local Serbian television stations and has also sparked online controversy too.
After translating the audio from the video clip, the Reuters news agency reveals that the women implore with the cameraman to stop filming them amid the sound of burglar alarms, breaking glass, and the general chaos of people pilfering from shop to shop.
“But you are the heroines of this protest for me,” replied the openly sarcastic cameraman while following the well-laden thieves into a sheltered doorway as they organised their loot to make it easier to carry.
“Have you found your size yet?” he asked, persisting in his pursuit as one of the women attempted to cover her face with a pair of stolen shoes.
Reaction on Google-owned YouTube has been one of condemnation, with an overriding sense of repulsion to the violent rally, the resulting looting, and the two ‘stars’ of this particular video clip.
