While there’s little doubting the industry prowess and reputation of NVIDIA Corp., fans of the California-based GPU manufacturer are probably suffering from pricked ears at news that NVIDIA is lauding its GeForce 9 series as potentially “the largest single-generation performance jump in the Company’s history.”

Focusing on the recent unveiling of its powerhouse GeForce 9600 GT graphics processing unit, which delivers up to 116 percent more visual performance than its direct predecessor for less than $200, NVIDIA describes the first series 9 entrant as the perfect GPU for gamers.
According to Ujesh Desai, general manager of GeForce desktop GPUs at NVIDIA, “The first product to be introduced in the GeForce 9 family gives gamers the horsepower to play cutting-edge DirectX 10 games at a price they will love and can afford.”
While recent processor-intensive computer games such as Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare and Unreal Tournament 3 require GPUs in the range of $400 USD or more for full high-resolution delivery, NVIDIA claims that the GeForce 9600 GT offers up incredible graphics well within the reach and budget of PC gamers everywhere.
“The new GeForce 9600 GT GPU further extends NVIDIA’s ability to deliver improved DirectX 10 performance on Windows Vista at an affordable price point, so that anyone and everyone can have an amazing gaming experience,” enthused Kevin Unangst, senior global director of Games for Windows at Microsoft Corp.
In terms of specifications and NVIDIA’s performance claims, the GeForce 9600 GT boasts an improved performance-per-watt ratio and enhanced compression efficiency when compared to its GPU predecessor.
It also offers up 64 stream processors (clocked at an impressive 1625MHz ‘each’), and a 256bit memory interface running at 900MHz. It is also designed for the new PCIe 2.0 bus standard along with PCIe standard compatibility.
Factor in boosted HD video playback via NVIDIA PureVideo HD technology and a price tag below $200 USD, and the GeForce 9600 GT might well be a force to be reckoned with beside some of its more expensive NVIDIA counterparts.

That Demi Moore, she's got a rule for everything! Or did you mean Roger... or perhaps Dudley... Kenneth... Michael... or Mandy? Is it a 'law' they all secretly follow?
