With the launch of Microsoft’s Server 2008, and the hype given to NAP (Network Access Protection) and other NAC (Network Access Control) products, IT networks have options when securing their environments. The problem is that, true NAC configuration and management is confusing and often expensive. Thanks to Mirage Networks, this problem is easily solved on smaller budget minded networks.
With the launch of Microsoft’s Server 2008, and the hype given to NAP (Network Access Protection) and other NAC (Network Access Control) products, IT networks have options when securing their environments. The problem is that, true NAC configuration and management is confusing and often expensive.
Mirage Networks, and Security On-Demand, both known for compliance technology and services in IT, announced NAC On-Demand recently. NAC On-Demand is the first and only full-cycle managed NAC service. The NAC On-Demand utilizes a SaaS (Software-as-a-Service) delivery model to provide rapid deployment, zero maintenance, and no upfront capital costs.
NAC technology enables network protection by controlling network access, monitoring network behavior, isolating non-compliant endpoints, and providing self-remediation capability for non-compliant or “out of policy” network users.
“Network Access Control is the most significant security development since the introduction of the firewall. In today’s organization of fluid network perimeters, everyone needs access control; but many don’t have the financial or technical resources to deploy it,” said Peter Bybee, president and CEO of Security On-Demand
NAC is a common setup requirement for IT administrators when setting up networks. It can be complex, and expensive. These two things prevent most companies form adding this layer of management and protection to the network budget. Some NAC hardware can cost as little as a few hundred dollars and up to $20,000, if not more. Offering NAC as a SaaS means that companies who want the protection, but can not deploy it because of funding or complexity, now have another option.
NAC On-Demand offers two service programs. The “NAC On-Demand EndPoint Security” service monitors connecting clients as they attempt to enter the network and logon to system resources. Security On-Demand can immediately detect unknown clients and enforce corporate security standards, such as pre-admission security scans and minimum standards for anti-virus definitions and system patches.
The “NAC On-Demand Network Protection” service provides network based protection designed to monitor systems “post-admission” or after users are authenticated to the network. Security On-Demand scans for activity from systems that violate behavioral norms, corporate computing policies, and systems that may be involved in the proliferation of viruses, worms, Trojans and other Malware. If such devices are located, they are cut off, and the clients are aligned to policy as well as the administrators are alerted.

How does this scale in a large enterprise environment. What are the drawbacks. The article failed to mention any negative comments.

It doesn't mention any negatives because I think you are generous in calling it an article. It is a 'advertorial'.
