Specifically, computer giant Dell has this week rolled out its very first “ruggedized” laptop in the form of the Latitude XFR D630, which offers simplified IT functionality along with extreme durability and uncompromising performance.
While the $3,899 USD (starting) price of Dell’s near-bomb proof laptop might dissuade the more conventional consumer, Dell is keen to point out that the Latitude XFR D630 is targeted at commercial and government customers, meeting the MIL-STD 810F standards set by the US Department of Defense for devices designed to operated in environments such as extreme temperatures, moisture and altitude.
“The Latitude XFR D630 represents a tectonic shift towards simplicity in the ruggedized laptop space,” enthused Brett McAnally, director of the Dell Product Group. “We are taking a multi-dimensional approach that focuses on simplified deployment, service and durability without sacrificing performance. Major competitors focus their efforts on ‘rugged’ only.”
Helping it stand out from the crowd, the Latitude XFR D630 also comes with a (patent-pending) thermal management system, which allows the sturdy computer to use the latest generation of technology and produce as much as four times as much graphics performance than Panasonic’s CF-30 hardware offering.
And, unlike the system-return policy that competitors enforce for servicing and maintenance, Dell offers Next Business Day On-Site servicing for major internal components on the XFR D630.
Other features bundled in to the Latitude XFR D630 for that basic $3,899 USD include up to 5x more SSD data durability than leading competitors, an outdoor readable screen at 500 nits, shock isolated mounting to better protect the hard drive, screen and integral core electronics, dual-locking butterfly mechanisms for easy access to components, ExpressCharge for battery charging at least 30 minutes quicker than rival rugged laptops, and a fully sealed water and dust resistant keyboard.
