The new package offers NAV 2008 for Windows and NAV 11 for Mac. The release is designed for dual-boot systems where one would have both operating systems installed. Like Norton 360, Norton Dual Protection uses smart updating and will update in the background. Another feature found in the Dual package is the automatic cleaning of malicious files, preventing them from ever accessing your system.
The argument made by a few early reviews is that because virtualization is growing, computers with Windows installed, even Mac’s, need AV protection. The Dual Protection package offers protection for both environments.
The issue however, does Mac need virus protection? Macintosh users often take the stance that they are immune to Malware and other threats. To prove their point they argue that most Malware is written for Windows and that most attacks target Windows users. This is the start of the circle, which ties market share to potential risk for the end user.
If you follow security, or are interested in security, then you know this is simply not true. While Malware and attacks online do in fact focus on Windows users, that is no reason to discount the potential risk to Macintosh users. Good security is just that, good security. While it might not be needed, the added security you can get from an AV product installed on your Mac is a real consideration.
The estimated retail price for Norton AntiVirus Dual Protection for Mac is US$69.95 and can be bought either as a download or on CD.
