Following the May 2007 launch of its Gemstone notebook (laptop) line, Acer has shifted the design and development of its award-winning series towards producing a unique HD portable computer equipped with exclusive features and an exclusive design “of the very highest caliber.”
The Aspire Gemstone Blue line is the culmination of that drive, with the two notebook creations offering 18.4-inch (8920) and 16-inch (6920) footprints, internal Blu-ray disc drives, full HD LCD screens, and native 16:9 resolution.
And the “blue” element of the new line? Well, according to Acer, the Aspire Gemstone Aspire Blue computers come with a dominant design feature that incorporates both blue colour and light that is “a naturally cool, calming and universal colour.”
“It is often associated with intelligence, stability, unity and control,” comments Taipei-based Acer. “The blue light that runs across the new Gemstone series instantly distinguishes the new product identity and illuminates its many elements of style.”
Those elements of style include a Holographic 3D cover that “radiates true elegance” via its starlit backlight, which shines beneath a floating Acer logo, while original Gemstone design is delivered through the inclusion of the DiamondBlack eKey.
From an entertainment point of view, the Aspire Gemstone Blue line includes the Acer CineDash media console, which is a touch-sensitive interface that enables users to manage their entertainment, quickly launch Acer Arcade, navigate menus, adjust volume levels, and control media “on the fly.”
Both the 8920 and 6920 also deliver second generation Dolby Home Theater technology alongside CineSurround, Tuba CineBass booster (the world’s first unique tube-type bass booster design), and True5.1 output in order to “set a new standard” in notebook sound capabilities.
In terms of user comfort, the new Aspire Gemstone Blue computers also come sporting the “intricate texture” of the NeoWeave palm rest in order to provide users with a working area that’s both comfortable and ergonomic for their hands.
Specs wise, both models feature Intel Centrino Core 2 Duo processors, Windows Vista Ultimate or Home Premium operating systems, and up to 4GB of DDR2 667MHz memory. Both also come equipped with an integrated webcam, fingerprint reader, draft-N wireless, Bluetooth.
Separately, the 6920 offers up to 320GB of hard drive storage, a Blu-ray Super Multi double-layer drive, a 16-inch LCD screen at either 1920x1080 or 1366x768 resolution, and an NVIDIA GeForce 9500M GS graphics card (512MB of dedicated RAM).
The 8920 delivers two hard drive solutions up to 320GB each, a Blu-ray Super Multi double-layer drive, an 18.4-inch LCD screen offering full HD at 1920x1080 resolution, and either the same GeForce 9500M GS card as the 6920 or the upgraded GeForce 9650M solution (512MB of dedicated RAM).
Both models are due to arrive in mid-April, starting at a retail price of around $900 USD and stretching as far as around $2,000 USD.
