If Amazon.com’s related product pages are to be believed, then the long-awaited Service Pack 1 (SP1) upgrade for Windows Vista will be made available for download before the day is out.

An Associated Press report reveals that Amazon.com’s Vista product page is outlining to prospective buyers that the SP1 pack can be obtained for download starting today, Tuesday, March 18.
Further to that, Amazon consumers can also register pre-orders for a boxed retail version of SP1, which Amazon claims it will begin shipping from tomorrow, Wednesday, March 19.
By way of response, American software titan Microsoft Corp. has confirmed that SP1 is on target for a mid-March release, which would tie in with Amazon’s suggested release date. However, while Microsoft has acknowledged Amazon’s date claims, it has not yet officially confirmed them.
Prior to Amazon’s apparent scoop, Microsoft has stated that, when it does eventually arrive, SP1 will be made available for manual download via the Microsoft Windows Update site, before then being introduced more widely through the automatic Windows Update service found on user computers.
The Service Pack 1 update will integrate a host of new elements to Windows Vista, which will enhance its levels of performance, security and reliability and likely make the operating system more attractive to business users currently sticking with the stability of Windows XP. Advance testers of the update have thus far reported performance increases in certain areas such as network file copying and computer gaming.
As things stand however, both the Windows Update site and official Windows Vista blog show no obvious signs of Vista SP1’s imminent arrival, while Microsoft’s online press room is also quiet.
