It may be a number of months away on the gaming calendar, but this year’s E3 event is already stoking the fires of intrigue for those looking forward to the almost-always revealing industry extravaganza in Los Angeles.

Speaking with GameTrailers TV host Geoff Keighley at the recent GDC 08 conference in San Francisco, Nintendo of America boss Reggie Fils-Aime has teased global Nintendo fans by outlining that the Japanese gaming giant will be making some “fantastic” software announcements during E3.
Refusing to be drawn by Keighley into divulging anything in the way of specific titles or applicable series, gaming man-mountain Fils-Aime did confirm that E3 will see Nintendo “unveil the whole second half” of its 2008 software line up.
“It’s going to be a good second half,” said Fils Aime before ramping up the tantalisation factor by also announcing that Christmas 08 will reveal a particularly heavyweight release. “There’s going to be a big game for the holidays that the gamers will want.”
While adding that there will be enough for everyone to get excited about, the Nintendo bigwig also revealed that 2008 will see the introduction of “great new content” designed to maximise of all of Nintendo’s key gaming franchises.
Wonderfully vague mutterings by Fils-Aime there, as these hype-attracting interview nuggets so often are.
Yet Nintendo’s current popularity with the innovative Wii and DS, and also its ability to deliver truly spectacular demographic-busting software, will likely see Fils-Aime’s far-sighted promises turn into concrete chart-topping products.
Nintendo is currently enjoying critical and consumer acclaim through its new Wii Fit and Super Smash Bros. Brawl offerings.
The 2008 E3 Media and Business Summit is scheduled to take place from July 15 to July 17 at the Los Angeles Convention Center. Entrance is by invitation only.
