Little is presently known about what we’re likely to find beneath the collective hoods of Toshiba’s new computers, although we can tell you that regular consumer additions are the 15.4-inch Satellite A300, 13.3-inch Satellite U400 and the 17-inch Satellite P300. Business and professional users can look forward to the 15-inch Satellite Pro A300, the 13-inch Pro U400 and the 17-inch Pro P300.
While full technical specifications related to the new computers will not be released until later in the second quarter of 2008, the latest glossy black Satellite hardware entrants are all being billed by Toshiba as sporting “stylish slim-line chassis designs with truly desirable features.”
Some of those features reportedly include a touchpad with metallic mouse buttons, a quick-launch multimedia bar boasting touch-sensitive buttons and LED lighting, and even a textured palm rest. Wow.
Until that promised list of full specs arrives, the above features are hardly likely to tick many boxes when it comes to capturing the essence of what most computer enthusiasts class as being ‘truly desirable.’
That being said, reports outline the new Satellites as coming equipped with a choice of the latest processors from both Intel Corp. and AMD along with cutting-edge graphics power courtesy of ATI Mobility Radeon technology.
All the new commercial models will also offer enough core oomph to handle the Windows Vista Home Premium operating system, which will come installed as standard, while the Pro offerings will give users the choice between Vista Business Edition or the proven stability of XP Professional.
The new Satellites will support decent amounts of integrated data storage thanks to dual hard drives ranging up to a capacity of 640GB, while all models will come complete with Toshiba’s TruBrite display screen technology, in-built Harmon Kardon speakers and Dolby sound.
The tech gurus at PocketLint point out that other features and functions will include an onboard Web camera and microphone, a DVD SuperMulti drive, WLAN, Bluetooth, and Gigabit Ethernet LAN connectivity, and also the new “USB Sleep ‘n’ Charge” mode, which enables USB charging while the hardware remains in a state of sleep.
