The plug-in appliance approach sounds good, but their pricing is out of whack, way too high.
You can achieve similar results with a dedicated multi-homed Linux router for a fraction of the cost -- a low end Linux box will cost you $200. But it takes a lot more effort and knowledge to set one up. Even if you have to hire someone to set it up for you, you still come in at a 5th of the cost with a Linux approach.
To hire a Linux consultant and have them set this up for you, and you are correct a multi-homed approach will work, will cost a typical IT shop about 5-8k assuming the IT people are Linux-phobes. Remember to a large part of IT Linux is still new and 'untrusted' as sad as that is. Good counter argument however.
