If the prospect of attaching a somewhat unattractive (and certainly conspicuous) GPS navigational unit to the dashboard of your car is something that keeps you from enjoying the benefits of directional driving assistance, then perhaps Garmin and Kenwood have just what you’re looking for.

Specifically, Garmin International, a global leader in satellite navigation technology, has announced it is once again joining forces with electronics and communications giant Kenwood to provide drivers with a new range of “in-dash” navigation devices for 2008.
“We have been very pleased with Kenwood’s success in selling Garmin-equipped units since we started our partnership in 2006, and we’re expecting even greater things in 2008,” said Dan Bartel, Garmin’s VP of Worldwide Sales. “We have developed an integrated marketing strategy with Kenwood that will benefit dealers and consumers.”
According to Keith Lehman, Senior VP of Kenwood USA, the extended partnership will see Kenwood’s line of in-car multimedia products integrated with Garmin’s massively popular GPS technology (31 million automotive and recreational devices delivered to date) in order to appeal to even the most demanding of on-the-road consumers.
Navigational components set to feature in those devices include pre-loaded map coverage of North America or Europe, as well as six million points of interest accessible via an easy-to-use touch-sensitive interface system that ensures “hassle-free driving” at all times.
Also, Garmin and Kenwood are keen to distance themselves from rival devices by outlining that their in-dash products will come equipped with internal flash-based memory, which further enhances usage as swapping out individual map discs will never be needed.
Other optional features include Satellite Radio reception, HD Radio, Bluetooth connectivity, and high-speed iPod audio and video control.
While specific price and release information has yet to be uncovered by either party, Garmin and Kenwood will be launching a dedicated Internet site to better inform prospective consumers ahead of any retail arrivals.
