Consumer electronics giant Sony Corp. has released a new in-car CD tuner that relies on modern technology to enable drivers to revel in their favourite music while on the move without ever having to fiddle with radio knobs or disc selection.

More pointedly, the new MEX-BT3600U allows users to simply connect their digital music players to it via USB in order to playback their stored music collections. Or, if a wireless solution is more preferable, then users can also choose to stream content from a Bluetooth compatible Sony Walkman device or mobile phone.
The incorporation of a Bluetooth mobile phone also lends itself perfectly to the MEX-3600U and its hands-free calling function, which bolsters the in-car tuner’s performance alongside the high levels of sound quality usually delivered by Sony-branded products.
The USB attribute of Sony’s MEX-BT3600U allows users to directly connect their digital music players via a port situated on the unit’s 13-segment LCD front panel, while the tuner also offers an “ultra quick searching” Quick-BrowZer feature that scans the user’s MP3 music library through an easy-to-use rotary controller.
Wireless functionality is provided through Bluetooth A2DP (Advanced Audio Distribution Profile), which Sony says will provide “high stereo quality digital audio streaming” through a Bluetooth connection. Music-based content from any A2DP-enabled device will be happily channelled by the MEX-BT3600U, while Bluetooth AVRCP (Audio/Video Remote Control Profile) will also allow users to wirelessly track skip and pause directly through the in-car tuner.
“The DRIVE-S CD chassis teams precision 24-bit D/A conversion with 52W x 4 channels of super low distortion MOSFET power,” outlines Sony regarding the MEX-BT3600U’s standard qualities. “Sony’s original DM+ (Digital Music+) codec enhancer restores high frequencies that are often lost when music files have been compressed from a CD source. Three separate pre-outs are provided [as is a card-sized infrared remote].” The Sony MEX-BT3600U in-car CD tuner will be available throughout Europe from May 2008.
