Japanese electronics specialist Nikon Corporation has bolstered the appeal of its compact ‘point and shoot’ digital camera line by introducing the S52 and S52C, a pair of new Coolpix cameras positioned to offer high-quality wave-surface design while enabling users to explore and enjoy fresh photography experiences.

Official press blurb pleasantries aside, Nikon’s new Coolpix duo arrive built on a customised version of the Tokyo-based company’s EXPEED digital image processing concept. The cameras also feature precise optic lens standards via NIKKOR in order to deliver a high level of performance alongside optimal image capture.
Both model variants come complete with 9.0 megapixel image capabilities, built-in “right-angle” optical lens shift Vibration Reduction (VR), a 3x Zoom-NIKKOR lens (38mm-114mm range), and a degree of manual sensitivity stretching up to an ISO of 3200 (an AutoISO feature is included). The new Coolpix cameras also boast anti-reflective and scratch-resistant 3.0-inch TFT LCD displays with which to more clearly capture the very best in photo and movie-based content.
The slightly more desirable S52c camera offers up built-in Wi-Fi support for the inclusion of anytime and anywhere access to Nikon’s “my Picturetown” online feature.
The my Picturetown service is Nikon’s exclusive image storage and sharing Web site, which is built on a secure server and similar to Yahoo-owned Flickr insofar as it allows users to upload, organise and share their captured images with friends and family. my Picturetown also comes complete with easy storage through Picture Bank and e-mail notification via Picture Mail.
Other features to be found on the Nikon S52 and S52c include image-enhancing elements such as Face Priority AF, In-Camera Red-Eye Fix, and D-Lighting, while both lightweight models also offer Macro Shooting (from 4cm/1.6-inch), 4x digital zoom, a 23-language menu interface, 38MB of internal memory, USB connectivity, and SDHC and PictBridge compatibility.
The compact S52 ($249 USD) comes in a choice of Gloss Silver or Purplish Black, while the S52c ($279 USD) comes in Silver, Purplish Black, Coral Pink, Beige Gold, Matte Black, Gloss Red and Forest Green.
