Having already wowed countless technology commentators with its budget-priced diminutive Eee PC laptop, Taiwan-based ASUSTek Computer Inc. has this week officially moved to evolve the brand by detailing the release and pricing of its latest Eee PC offering.

Aesthetic differences setting the new 900 series apart from its slightly smaller 700 series predecessor include an enhanced 8.9-inch screen (1024x600), which is a significant boost over the original Eee PC’s modest 7-inch display (800x480).
Adult hands will likely feel more at home on the Eee PC 900 thanks to a modicum of growth in terms of actual physical sizing too.
Internal specifications also vary somewhat, with the new model providing 1GB of RAM, as opposed to the prior 512MB carried on the 700 series, while onboard storage capacity has been boosted from a meagre 2GB and 4GB through to the availability of either 12GB or 20GB of SSD.
ASUSTek outlines that the computer’s four-cell battery should provide around 3.5 hours of operational time on a single charge, while the overall weight of the tiny laptop remains below a single kilo.
However, the arrival of Microsoft Windows XP as a pre-installed operating system option (alongside a pre-installed Linux option) is likely to be the one 900 series attribute that ASUSTek is hoping will attract yet more willing consumers to its already critically acclaimed product.
Other Eee PC 900 features include an Intel Mobile processor, an onboard digital camera, 802.11b/g and 10/100 Ethernet connectivity, an SD/MMC card reader, 3 USB ports, a VGA port and headphone and mic-in points.
The new ASUS Eee PC 900 has been given a UK release date of May 01, with recommended retail prices expected to be 329 GBP for both the 12GB Windows XP model and the 20GB Linux model. The 12GB Windows version also comes with Windows Live Suite and MS Works.
A revamped 700 series model has also been given pre-installed Windows XP, Windows Live Suite and MS Works for a price of 249 GBP. Although it is worth noting that it only offers 4GB of SSD storage on 512MB of RAM.
Since the initial launch back in November of 2007, ASUS claims to have sold more than one million units of the Eee PC.
