At a research facility outside of Utah, the BBC reports the Sarcos laboratories have developed the XOS exoskeleton, which is designed to match the agility of a human, but with superhuman powers including strength and endurance far beyond a human's capabilities.
Early models of the robotics suits would be designed to help the logistical side, assisting with supplies or where objects needed to be moved around repeatedly.
However designers of the robot suit expect that eventually it would participate in combat situations.
A number of problems remain though, such as how to create a mobile power supply for the suits which would last an effective length of time.
However despite the trial status, the US army is expected to take delivery of a number of the XOS prototypes early next year and is hoping to deploy them within eight years.
