With content support from music giants EMI and Sony BMG along with backing from Hollywood actor Will Smith, the new beta Web site of the PluggedIn streaming service has launched this week.

Arriving as a free-to-consumer streaming portal, PluggedIn claims to provide its users with access to “the highest quality music videos available anywhere on the Web.”
That quality is delivered through more than 10,000 buffer-free, high definition and broadcast quality music videos supplied by the likes of EMI Group, Sony BMG and various other major and independent music contributors.
“Until now, watching HD or even broadcast quality music videos on the web has been nearly impossible," says Jeff Somers, CEO of PluggedIn. "Today we’re announcing a major step forward in the way that fans can connect with the high quality content and artists that matter most to them."
PluggedIn’s capital and resources are backed via a strategic partnership with entertainment and artist management company Overbrook Entertainment, which boasts principals including actor and musician Will Smith, and entertainment veterans James Lassiter and Ken Stovitz.
“The experience that the PluggedIn team has created is truly world-class,” enthused Guy Primus, Overbrook Entertainment’s head of interactive media. “The fact that they’ve built all of this to be replicated across entertainment categories is even more remarkable, and we look forward to working with them on a variety of initiatives.”
Notable artists that will appear through PluggedIn include the likes of Radiohead, Green Day, 30 Seconds to Mars, Joss Stone, Coldplay, Gorillaz, Chemical Brothers, Norah Jones, Daft Punk, KT Tunstall, Keith Urban and The Kooks.
PluggedIn, not to be confused with the similarly named Christian movie-recommendation Web site, offers smooth, uninterrupted and full-screen music videos in HD quality that are encoded across dial-up, wireless and broadband bandwidths to provide versatile instant playback.
Other PluggedIn features include access to 1 million Artist Profiles (at launch), which are dynamically assembled and updated in real time. Fans are also able to search for their favourite artists on-site and across the Web to gather all the most relevant videos, photos, playlists, news stories, blogs, bios, merchandise and recommendations into one place.
