After IBM’s X-Force research team released a report that showed growing trends in organized attacks and similar crimes targeting smaller Enterprises, IBM rolled out a new service designed to offer these companies a chance to keep up with security, while saving a little coin.
IBM says that smaller companies seldom have the resources to defend their networks from systematic and organized attack, saying that they, “…typically lack the vast information technology resources needed to prepare for such attacks, they can often be prime targets for network attacks, data breaches and other malicious threats.”
IBM Internet Security Systems (ISS) and several corporate partners are launching five news services to even the playing field. Express Penetration Testing, or Pentesting as it is better known to some, will launch a real attack on the company and network to discover weaknesses.
IBM has also launched new UTM (Unified Threat Management) services, rolling common security such as AV scanning IPS/IDS and Email filtering into one appliance. UTM is nice, but it has been proven weak overall, because when you focus on several areas, you can’t watch everything at once. UTM services should be used as a layer in security, not expected to provide total security.
Other new services from IBM are 24\7 monitoring and protection on servers including management, and PCI assessments. The PCI services appear to be a compliance check, taking advantage of the fact IBM is one of the handfull of vendors who are certified to offer audits.
Prices and other details such as limitations and resource requirements were not released. If you want to research more on the topic call IBM: 1-877-IBM-ACCESS
