According to a story published on CNN's official Fortune website, the 3G unveiling of Research In Motion’s (RIM’s) new high-speed wireless BlackBerry device could well be about to lose its scheduled June launch window, with August being touted as a more realistic release date.

While concrete reasoning behind the alleged delay remains undisclosed, unnamed sources reportedly situated closely to both RIM and American carrier AT&T have relayed that AT&T is concerned regarding call quality via the 3G technology.
Not all industry watchers are jumping at the delay rumours however, with Canaccord Adams analyst Peter Misek highlighting his March 31 observation that the 3G BlackBerry was only just arriving at AT&T’s labs and was certainly susceptible to an August launch delay as a result.
“I’m very, very disappointed that the market finds this as any kind of news,” commented Misek in a Reuters article. “It’s not going to have any impact on the August quarter and we’ve always said this device is going to be delayed.”
Showing his surprise that more industry players were not aware of the likelihood of a delay, Misek went on to say that any emerging calendar push will probably be connected to RIM and its chip supplier Marvell having to address technical issues prior to the attainment of network certification for the device.
Rumours of a possible 3G BlackBerry delay have naturally led to chatter that Apple’s rival 3G iPhone device, which is also due to appear in June, will now be handed regional incentive when it comes to rolling out high-speed third-generation smartphone performance in North America, where 3G continues to gain traction. AT&T is also the iPhone’s exclusive carrier in the US.
Both Research In Motion and AT&T have thus-far declined to offer comment on the 3G BlackBerry delay rumours.
