With European regional carriers of the original EDGE network iPhone apparently hacking down prices to help clear stock ahead of the arrival of Apple’s second-generation 3G network version, pricing rumours for the new model are already starting to circulate.

Specifically, CNN’s Fortune website has recently uncovered what it claims to be the 3G iPhone subsidy plan for American carrier AT&T. Further to that, an unnamed source reportedly associated with AT&T and Apple has said the exclusive US carrier will subsidize the 3G iPhone’s cost at around $200 USD for each unit.
If true, that would place the second-generation 8GB model at a mere $199 USD, while the more spacious 16GB model would likely retail for $299 USD -- both coupled with a mandatory two-year usage contract.
By way of justifying AT&T’s supposed subsidization move, Fortune goes on to suggest that the US carrier will be able to pull back any initial losses thanks to iPhone consumers generally amassing phone bills of around $100 USD per month, which is around double the standard bill amount attributed to other mobile phone users.
Other related 3G iPhone rumours presently doing the rounds include the second-generation smartphone arriving with a none-recessed headphone jack, chrome volume buttons, a shiny black rear housing, and full GPS capabilities.
The latter point has also apparently been confirmed by Fortune’s source, which also offered that the 3G model will be around 2.7mm thinner than its EDGE predecessor and is scheduled to be officially launched at the end of June.
Apple Inc. CEO Steve Jobs is expected to reveal the new 3G iPhone at the Worldwide Developers Conference in San Francisco between June 09 and June 13.
