The march of SSD continues courtesy of the tech boffins at Flash-based storage specialist Super Talent Technology, who have this week whipped the covers off a range of new MasterDrive SSD storage solutions described as being “100% interchangeable with hard disk drives (HDDs).”

Offering faster performance, lighter physical weight, improved reliability and a more rugged construction than HDD drives, Super Talent’s MasterDrive MX and DX models use NAND Flash drives, which, unlike HDD, contain no moving parts and operate silently.
In terms of power consumption, the MasterDrives also require only a fraction of the power used by HDD drives, which results in the creation of less heat and longer battery life when used in conjunction with mobile computing.
Armed with a SATA-II (3Gbps) interface to support high bandwidth and broad compatibility with motherboards, the 2.5-inch MasterDrives also include Super Talent’s proprietary wear-levelling algorithms to help further extend the operational lifespan of the SSDs.
The MasterDrive MX line utilises MLC Flash and offers three storage capacities running read-write speeds of up to 120/40 MB/sec, which range from the $299 USD 30GB model, to the $499 USD 60GB drive, and the top-end $699 USD 120GB option. All MX models come with a 1-year warranty.
The MasterDrive DX line employs SLC NAND and offers a $699 USD 30GB model and a $1,299 USD 60GB model, both running at an improved read/write speed of 120/70 MB/sec. All DX models come with a 3-year warranty.
“These new SSDs are a rugged, lightning fast, low power storage alternative for mobile professionals and enthusiasts,” commented Super Talent’s marketing director, Joe James. “With such overwhelming benefits, MasterDrive SSDs are sure to revolutionize mobile storage.”
Beyond its new MasterDrive storage products, California-based Super Talent Technologies also manufactures the ultra-rugged DuraDrive SSD line in capacities up to 256GB.
Super Talent will be showcasing its complete range of Flash and DRAM solutions at the upcoming Computex Convention in Taipei from June 03 to June 07.
