Microprocessor giant Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) has this week moved to meet the needs of performance-conscious PC gamers everywhere by announcing AMD GAME!, a consumer information scheme designed to make knowledgeable computer purchasing as easy and accessible as purchasing a HD Ready television or Vista Ready computer.

Moreover, by incorporating an AMD GAME! logo onto computers that have been properly optimised “with the right graphic and processor components” for cutting-edge gaming, AMD hopes that general PC buyers and DIY game enthusiasts will no longer need to worry about exactly what is -- or perhaps isn’t -- waiting beneath their system’s hood as they lift it clear of the packaging.
AMD claims consumers will be able to rest assured that systems embraced by the AMD GAME! logo will come armed with a powerful blend of multi-core processing technology, top-end high definition (HD) digital media capabilities, and next-generation graphics muscle, making an informed purchase as easy for PC buyers as it is for videogame console owners.
“We in the PC industry owe consumers the same predictability, simplicity and affordability in finding a PC for gaming that the console industry currently provides,” commented Nigel Dessau, senior vice president and chief marketing officer at California-based AMD.
AMD’s accessibility and informed choice initiative is supported by leading industry heavyweights such as system manufacturer Acer, Dell-owned enthusiast PC specialist Alienware, peripherals and accessories expert Logitech, and software titan Microsoft Corporation.
“We are happy to see the growing interest in PC gaming and now AMD is adding a much needed program to help continue that trend,” said Patrick Cooper, director of Alienware’s product group. “The AMD GAME! experience enables Alienware to quickly and easily help consumers identify the experience that is right for them and the high performance Alienware solution that delivers it.”
In terms of specific AMD GAME! component inclusion, top-tier gaming systems carrying the logo will offer AMD technology taken from the company’s Phenom, Turion Ultra, and Athlon processing lines, while graphics oomph will be supplied through the ATI Radeon HD 3000, and specific AMD chipsets will help deliver an enhanced and simplified mainstream PC gaming experience.
Prospective buyers can take advantage of AMD GAME! by seeking out labelled systems through online vendors such as Alienware, Cyberpower, iBuypower, Maingear and Velocity Micro. Walk-in retail availability is expected to arrive before the close of 2008.
