BitDefender announced recently that they were releasing a software package that offers a unique spin on traditional security, designed especially for gamers. The new AV offering, dubbed GameSafe, offers the traditional protection from rootkits, and various Malware, but keeps the CPU and RAM usage to a minimum.

Sometimes gamers will turn off their protections when playing online games. Symantec’s Norton products are famous when it comes to causing lag as it runs during game play. (However, Norton 360 2.0 had very little CPU and Memory usage during testing by The Tech Herald.) Because of the lag, the security is disabled. BitDefender has come up with a solution that lets gamers play, and offers them protection at the same time. GameSafe keeps the impact on processing power, memory, and virtual memory to a minimum, allowing gamers to maintain “in-game” responsiveness and eliminating interruptions during play.
The built in firewall is auto configured for game play, and monitors both wired and wireless network connections. The Malware protection gets hourly updates, and is proactive in monitoring and detection of new threats, the Anti-Phishing filters false pages, and prevents information disclosure via email. Now this is nothing new when it comes to protection, the hourly updates are unique, but this is what you should expect from a security vendor. What gamers will like is the one click access.
Clicking a single setting places GameSafe into gamer mode where processor time and memory consumption are drastically lowered. Updates and scans are put on hold, and alerts are automatically silenced. If a scan has to happen, only the most critical files are scanned. Meaning you get the protection you expect, with no lag or freezing while playing games.
GameSafe is available online and in stores for $25.00.http://www.bitdefender.com/media/html/gamesafe.html
