Voltage and Websense are two companies who offer security on different levels, opposite sides of the same coin if you will. One offers solid encryption, the other protections information online and in email, to name a few. In a recent announcement, they said they would start to work together and offer a rounded security system that covers information protection via encryption and information management with policy enforcement.

It isn’t enough to secure information inside the company; you have to manage who has access to what and where the information goes as well. Voltage will use their SecureFile and Identity Based Encryption (IBE), both covered in the past on TTH, with Websense’s Data Security Suite.
When used together, Websense will identify sensitive data throughout the network; on laptops and devices, when it is in motion through email traffic, or inside documents at rest. Then Websense will tap Voltage’s SecureFile to encrypt the specific data so that only the right user, at the right destination or system, with the right permissions can access that data.
“Long term, file encryption will become more interesting as it combines with DLP. We are starting to see products that encrypt files based on their content, managed by central policies… Long-term, file encryption (and DRM) will have to use content and context awareness to reduce the burden on users, comply with corporate policies, and improve the practicality of encryption,” said Rich Mogull, independent consultant and founder, Securosis.
The new security offerings are available now. Websense is already an existing channel partner to Voltage, as well as other known upstream vendors. More information is online at their respective sites.
