No suprised a bit. Apple is know for delivering overhype, extremly overprice and low quality products. Who (in is right mind) will pay those insane price to buy a badly encoded movie that is grossly overprice and locked tigher then fort knox? if i buy the movie, it should reflex the low cost of digital distribution and i should be able to play it on ANY device i own. (and no, it will not be a iPod or AppleTV, since i don't buy junk)
Thanks, but NO Thanks Apple. DRM infested crap will never and I mean never make it into my house.
Why are they so expensive? You only have 48 hours to watch them but you have to pay the same cost as actually purchasing a movie? Why would anyone bother?
what they are trying to do is with the protection of DRM, monitor the usage of such a service to be able to report back to the labels on what is feasible as a rescue for the record labels.
The record labels themselves are dying, and the 'motion picture association' sees the writing on the wall.
Bottom line is, no it shouldnt cost anywhere near the amount it costs to rent the movie...
this is nothing new... ebooks ain't as cheap as they should be either.
As long as we have the apple-worshipping idiot masses, I'm sure there will be a market for iTunes at whatever price.
I agree with a previous post. I'm not going to pay purchase prices for a rental.
You guys obviously didn't read the post well enough or know enough about the system. It is, however, a horrible system and having Apple do it just makes it worse.
However the truth is that the authors failed to mention the prices for Canadian rentals, they only published here the cost to purchase to own (a digital copy heavily laced with DRM). Rental prices are cheaper than going to say a Rogers or Blockbuster, but the fact is you only get to keep it for 48 hours after watching it once, and it's only watchable on an Apple-owned device. Whereas having the actual DVD (oh no I have to go to the corner video store to pick one up and interact with people!!!!!) you can play it in anything that can playback DVD format.
I forget where I read the rental prices for Canada, however I think they were somewhere in the range of +2 on the UK prices (5.49 for a new release). Seeing as how Blockbuster/Rogers charges the exact same amount and you get a hard copy of the movie and don't have to wait to download it, seems like I'd rather do that than download a 4gb movie (probably heavily compacted, actually, and much smaller) and only keep it for a small amount of time...
ya ditto on no DRM junk for me too. I'd rather watch paint dry than waste money on overpriced Apple gizmos and DRM infested content.
It will take a new generation of mass dumbed down consumers to make this restrictive new entertainment sandbox the norm. Let them have it, I pass!
So you pay $5 or so , but what about additional bandwidth charges, or Bell in the East throttling your download. You better off subscribing to Zip or going to the video store.
I'm Apple's biggest fan and am happy to see it arrive in Canada... but $20 to RENT a movie?
No way man... no way.
