How in the world can we, as carbon based life forms, do but so much to cut back on carbon emissions? Stop breathing? I guess that would make some people happy. Neither all the money nor gold on this earth can stop the climate from changing. Am I wrong? There is not conclusive proof, regardless of what the experts profess, that the human existence on this earth is altering the climate. A volcano, above sea or below, can pre-empt any thing man can muster in the way of carbon output in one burp. Granted we may not be helping matters, but what are our options, back in the caves? I'm just tired of the hysteria and hype for what some claim might be. Has anyone ever heard of transpostioning of the earth's axis? It's happening whether we like it or not, so in the long run everthing will wash out. It's out of our hands. Don't tax my carbon, the government gets enough already.
Soooooo..... the great NASA climate SCIENTIST proposes that a TAX will
evaporate all that nasty carbon dioxide........
Gimme an effin, break!!
Robert: The detail is in a large body of scientific literature. Don't worry, the scientific community knows where to find the facts you're worried about. This little sound-byte sized news article isn't the ideal place to present those facts.. try the great many other sites on the internet that are.
Dwight: The amount of carbon we breathe out is negligible compared to the amount of carbon put out by power stations and motor vehicles. And even if the climate were changing anyway, why rock a leaky boat? Sure a volcano could wipe us all out, or an asteroid, or whatever, but is that really reason enough to say that it doesn't matter if we wipe ourselves out from contaminating our own habitat? You sound like you're desperately searching for a way out of taking responsibility for our society's collective actions. Many of the people who will eventually have that responsibility forced upon them are alive today, and your attitude will make their lives that much harder.
aelkcim: The idea of the tax is to make pollution unprofitable - translating climate problems into the only language the big polluters understand. It's not going to solve all our problems, but it's better than letting people pollute for profit just because the economy doesn't account for environmental costs.
Vic, by the way 'breathing out' is commonly referred to as exhaling and 3 billion people are doing it every day along with God knows what other bodily emissions as well. Also, my reference to a volcano was not in it's immediate destructive properties but in the amount of 'carbon' it spews into the atmosphere. I'm afraid it's your attitude that will be far more destructive to our way of life than mine. Also you should check the 'Milankovitch Cycles' (google it, I can't put up a link)and enlighten yourself to the inevitable forces of nature.
All of these so-called climate change experts and propagandists produce as much if not more carbon dioxide daily as you and I. As soon as they stop driving cars, flying in airplanes, and heating and cooling their homes, and start paying individual taxes for the CO2 they exhale, I'll lend them an ear. Until then, I suggest they shut their carbon-producing traps and take some personal action in regard to what they're warning others about.
Al Gore lives in a 10,000-square-foot home, has a $1,300 a month electric bill and flies around the world in a jet sounding the alarm about global warming. Go figure!

Where is the detail. The facts need to be evaluated by the scientific community. This article just states an opinion of a government employee. Please!
