American software titan Microsoft Corporation has this week unveiled Equipt, a pocket-friendly all-in-one security and productivity subscription service that delivers all the productivity associated with Microsoft’s Office software suite in conjunction with the security and PC management value of Windows Live OneCare.

Offered via a single easy installation process, Microsoft hopes to attract pennywise subscribers with Equipt’s balance of “award-winning anti-malware protection” and access to productivity tools and online services “that help make it easy to keep in touch with family and friends.”
In terms of specific content, Microsoft Equipt (or ‘Albany’ as it was known during development) provides subscription-based access to the latest versions of Word, Excel, PowerPoint and OneNote, while also factoring in OneCare protection along with Windows Live tools such as Windows Live Mail, Windows Live Messenger, Windows Live Photo Gallery, and Windows Live Workspace.
Active Equipt users will also be eligible to receive ongoing software upgrades and any future releases of Office or Windows Live OneCare as part of their subscription deals for no extra cost.
“With Microsoft Equipt we’re improving our customers’ computing experience by giving them essential software in a package that offers an easy install and setup experience, as well as a convenient and affordable way to stay updated with the latest versions of Office and Windows Live OneCare,” trumpeted Bryson Gordon, group product manager for Microsoft Office.
The accompanying subscription price attached to Equipt with be around $70 USD for a one-year renewable service agreement, and will cover up to three computer systems.
The Equipt service will be made available across almost 700 Circuit City retail stores before the end of July. Other retail outlets such as Dell are expected to offer the subscription in the near future.
