While the MacBook Air notebook line is certainly a super-skinny and desirable piece of technology that’s almost guaranteed to attract the attention of anyone with even a passing interest in performance computers, its accompanying price tag is also likely to scare away a great many prospective buyers. And that’s a point of detraction Apple is keen to address.

Specifically, Cupertino-based computer and gadget giant Apple Inc. has this week lopped a massive $500 USD off the price of its top-tier MacBook Air, dropping its recommended asking price from $3,098 USD to $2,598 USD.
Although $2,598 USD is still likely to pale a great many consumers, the 1.8GHz, 64GB solid state drive (SSD) notebook is now available with a considerable chunk missing off its price, which equates to a 16 percent reduction and a concerted effort on Apple’s part to further enamour its sleek and sexy line to the masses.
Sadly that effort would appear to stop short of the $1,799 USD MacBook Air model, which has a 1.6GHz processor and offers a total of 80GB hard disk drive (HDD). Shame.
According to AppleInsider, the $500 USD price plunge has been facilitated thanks to related cost reductions connected to the manufacturing of certain MacBook Air storage and processor components. For example, the computer’s 64GB SSD is now priced at $599 USD rather than its prior $999 USD, while the processor price has dropped from $300 USD to $200 USD.
Shifting off the top of Apple’s price point pile, the top-end MacBook Air has now been replaced by the MacBook Pro, which sells for $2,799 USD.
