Privacy and information control. Those are two terms that Google is using to describe the recent additions to Gmail, which were officially launched this week by the development staff who control the popular online email client. The new addition is something that allows you to track recent Gmail sessions, and if signed on at another location, sign yourself off remotely.

The way it works is the new link on the bottom of the Gmail inbox. If you look, the new information explains how many instances are presently open, and where, thanks to the listed IP address.
Clicking the details link will offer more details, including the ability to log the other instances off remotely. The top table shows a listing of the active sessions with IP, and there is a session history below that.
While this isn’t the biggest security announcement, compared to the recent news of DKIM management used by Gmail, this is definitely a good step forward for those of us who use Gmail in various locations, and sometimes forget to logout.
