Although Sony Ericsson’s sliding C905 camera phone has been successfully raising a few eyebrows of appreciation as of late, it would appear that industry compatriot Samsung Electronics is looking to siphon off some of that gadget-based attention by unveiling its new 8.0 mega pixel i8510.
Is Samsung preparing to take on the Sony Ericsson C905 with its own 8.0 mega pixel i8510? Image: BoyGeniusReport.
Actually, Samsung hasn’t ‘officially’ unveiled the i8510 yet, but it’s unlikely to plug whichever corporate leak allowed the handset’s specs and related images to drip out onto the ever-reliable Internet -- not least because tech sites (like The Tech Herald) will undoubtedly pick up on the phone’s arrival and grant it some page space.
It’s almost as if Samsung itself ‘leaked’ the information. No, surely not.
So, the i8510 stands alongside Sony Ericsson’s C905 in that it delivers slick photography opportunities via the inclusion of an 8.0 mega pixel onboard camera unit that comes complete with features such as auto-focus (AF) and a Xenon flash.
It also boasts a whopping 2.8-inch QVGA display screen (240x320), which is apparently bolstered by 6 million colours. And, from a network connectivity standpoint, the first i8510 whispers suggest Samsung’s handset will function with HSDPA performance and also be equipped with Wi-Fi too.
Other features expected to be included in the package are the Symbian S60 operating system, a GPS unit, video recording at 120 frames per second, dedicated 3D graphics, support for DivX, TV out, 8GB and 16GB internal storage options, and also Samsung’s existing optical mouse.
In terms of its physical presence and sizing, online feedback from those claiming to have had the i8510 nestled in their palms outlines that the phone comes in a sleek metal outer casing, includes a removable 1200mAh battery, and measures approximately 10.6cm x 5.4cm x 1.7cm.
Seeing as Samsung is yet to confirm or deny this leaked information surrounding its i8510, concrete regional release dates and related hardware prices are not yet available. We will, of course, post them when Samsung breaks its silence.
