Seemingly not content with beating its naked corporate chest for all to see regarding the opening sales performance of the new iPhone 3G, California-based computer giant Apple Inc. is also keen to point out the massive success of its recently opened App Store.

Officially launched late last week to coincide with the much-anticipated arrival of the second-generation iPhone, the Apple App Store is an online portal filled with software applications designed and developed specifically for the iconic iPhone handset and its non-telephonic iPod Touch stable mate.
Also compatible with the original iPhone as well as the newly revamped model (which has sold in excess of 1 million units since launching on July 11), the App Store has already seen more than 10 million applications fly off its virtual shelves, according to Apple.
“The App Store is a grand slam, with a staggering 10 million applications downloaded in just three days,” exclaimed Apple CEO Steve Jobs regarding the store’s out-of-the-gate impact on the market. “Developers have created some extraordinary applications, and the App Store can wirelessly deliver them to every iPhone and iPod touch user instantly.”
iPhone or iPod Touch users looking to peruse the App Store can do so by clicking here, whereupon they will be given access to more than 800 native applications available for download, more than 200 of which are offered for free, while around 90 percent of those with accompanying price tags are available for less than $10 USD each (via iTunes payment).
“Developers have created a wide array of innovative mobile applications ranging from games to location-based social networking to medical applications to enterprise productivity tools,” outlines Apple. “Users can wirelessly download applications directly onto their iPhone or iPod touch and start using them immediately.”
A great many of the applications ready for download through the App Store utilise the aesthetic and functional impact of the iPhone’s dominant display and take advantage of the handset’s innovative touch-screen technology, its hardware-accelerated 3D graphics capabilities, built-in motion-sensitive accelerometer and its newly applied location-based features.
The App Store, which also notifies users when updates are available for their applications, is accessible via both cellular networks and Wi-Fi for full customer flexibility anytime and anywhere.
