Korean consumer electronics specialist Samsung has this week unveiled two new entrants to its digital camera portfolio, both of which are set to arrive in the UK as attractive and compact point-and-shoot photographic companions bolstered by impressive 10.2 mega-pixel performance.

First up, and building on the success of Samsung’s NV Series, is the new slimline NV9, which is described as providing a “winning combination of innovative technology and user-friendly features.”
Those attributes arrive via a 5x Optical Zoom lens, an Intelligent 2.7-inch LDC display screen, an onboard MP3 player and Portable Multimedia Player, support for MJPEG movie recording (plus editing and zoom) at 30fps, and also a highly sensitive ISO 3200 for the delivery of peace of mind through “optimum image quality.”
Other features on the NV9 include Samsung’s approved processing technology, Dual Image Stabilisation, Auto Contrast Balance (ACB), Perfect Portrait, Face Detection, Blink Detection Mode, and Smile Mode.
Interestingly, the NV9 also comes equipped with an easy-to-read Mini-Dashboard, which offers clearly defined, retro-styled status gauges that display remaining battery load and memory capacity.
“Samsung is delighted to strengthen the [NV] range with the launch of the NV9, which provides improved image quality and innovative features to photographers of all level,” enthused Robert King, Director of Samsung Cameras UK.
Next up is the new L201, Samsung’s slightly more pocket-friendly addition to its L Series of ultra-compact digital cameras, which also boasts 10.2 mega-pixel performance but for a clear £50 GBP less than the NV9.
That price saving does impact the camera’s feature set however, and sees the slender, metal-bodied L201 offering up a 3x Optical Zoom lens, a 2.7-inch LCD display, support for MJPEG movie recording (plus pause and zoom) at 30fps, and an ISO of 1600.
Other features include Samsung’s Face Detection technology, Auto Contrast Balance (ACB), Digital Image Stabilisation, Auto Red Eye Fix, and an in-camera rechargeable battery system.
The L201 comes available in colour choices such as classic black and silver, pink, turquoise and lime green.
Samsung’s new NV9 will be priced at around £179 GBP and comes complete with an efficient rechargeable battery system. The L201 will be priced at around £129 GBP. Both cameras come with a two-year warranty and will be available through walk-in and online retailers this coming August.
