Finding the right digital camera for all your personal consumer needs has never been an easy task, not least because the market is so saturated with all manner of feature-rich possibilities. Bearing that retail confusion in mind, camera specialist Nikon is hardly helping matters with the unveiling of not one, but five brand new entrants to its Coolpix line.
We jest, of course, more variety at an affordable price is always welcome, and Tokyo-based Nikon Corp. is certainly offering plenty of that via its fresh point-and-shoot Coolpix-branded quintet.
The Coolpix P6000 arrives as the main point of interest for budding photographers, with Nikon infusing it with 13.5 mega pixel performance, a generous 2.7-inch viewing screen, a wide-angle 4x NIKKOR optical zoom, the EXPEED image-processing system, RAW support, and a built-in Ethernet connector for direct upload access to the My Picturetown service.
Perhaps most notably, Nikon has graced the $499.95 USD Coolpix P6000 with GPS capabilities, making it the very first of Nikon’s cameras to carry a satellite navigation function.
Other features bundled into the P600 include Vibration Reduction, Lens-shift Vibration Reduction and Best Shot Selector -- the latter of which enables users to capture up to 10 shots in quick succession and then select and save any favoured image.
Next up is the Coolpix S60, which delivers 10 mega pixel performance and comes complete with a 5x optical zoom lens, 3.5-inch display screen, Vibration reduction, Scene Auto Selector, Face Recognition, Smile Shutter (with blink warning), HDMI output, in-camera image Retouch, and video recording. The S60 will be priced at around $349.95 USD.
The similarly named Coolpix S610 and S610c only differ insofar as the S610c model comes equipped with Wi-Fi connectivity. Meanwhile, other core features shared by both include 10 mega pixel performance, the world’s fastest start-up time (according to Nikon), 4x optical zoom, a 3.0-inch display screen, Scene Auto Selector, Smile Shutter (with blink warning), and 16 scene modes. The S610 should land with a $279.95 USD price tag, while the Wi-Fi enabled S610c is expected to cost $329.95 USD.
Almost finished. The Coolpix S710 throws out an impressive 14.5 mega pixels of oomph, along with a 3.6x optical zoom and a 3.0-inch LCD display screen. It also has four anti-blur features, Best Shot Selector, Motion detection, Smile Shutter (with blink warning) and video recording. Securing the S710 will likely cost $379.95 USD.
Finally, the Coolpix S560 maintains the solid performance levels of its counterparts through 10 mega pixel resolution, a 5x optical zoom, a 2.7-inch display screen, Scene Auto Selector, Blink Warning and Smile Shutter (with blink warning) and video recording. The cheapest model on the list, the S560 will likely set you back $249.95 USD.
