Continuing today’s apparent trend of consumer electronics manufacturers that are seemingly not content with single new product releases, Canon U.S.A. follows Nikon Corp’s quintet of Coolpix digital camera additions with a trio of new VIXIA-branded high-definition camcorders.
First under the spotlight is the VIXIA HF11 Dual Flash Memory Camcorder, which, despite being somewhat of a mouthful, can record up to 12 hours of HD video content to its spacious internal 32GB Flash drive, as well as also record directly to a removable SDHC memory card should users require even more storage.
The new VIXIA HG20 and HG21 Hard Disk Drive (HDD) camcorders also contribute to Canon’s focus on expanded storage, with the former arriving equipped with a 60GB drive (22 hours of HD content), and the latter positively bursting at the seams with a massive capacity of 120GB (45 hours of HD content). Again, both camcorders can also record to an SDHC memory card for further expansion.
Across the board, all three of Canon’s newest HD camcorders have been imbued with improved high-definition image quality thanks to the inclusion of 24Mbps bit rate recording, which Canon notes is the highest possible bit rate in the AVCHD format.
“The upgrade to 24Mbps enables consumers to capture the highest quality of video in the market today, providing the best High-Definition experience on an HDTV” enthused Yuichi Ishizuka, senior vice president and general manager of Canon U.S.A.’s Consumer Imaging Group.
“This increase, as well as dual recording options on all three VIXIA camcorders, is just another example of Canon’s commitment to understanding the marketplace and helping to lay the groundwork to lead the market for the current and next generation of High-Definition camcorders,” he added.
All of Canon’s VIXIA camcorders include core proprietary technologies developed to create HD video content that delivers “the highest possible level of image quality.” For example, Canon offers that its HD Video Lens incorporates more than 70 years of optics expertise in the fields of professional broadcasting and photography.
Other core features include Canon’s HD CMOS Image Sensor for Full HD (1920x1080) image capture, the Canon-developed DIGIC DV II Image Processor for superior colour and clarity, Instant AutoFocus, and SuperRange Optical Image Stabilization.
Scheduled for their retail launch this coming September, the Canon VIXIA HF11 will be priced at $1,199 USD, while the VIXIA HG21 and HG20 will cost $1,299 USD and $949 USD respectively.
