Check Point software, the owners of ZoneAlarm ForceField, said they will offer the tool free on Patch Tuesday this week. ZoneAlarm ForceField is a unique layer of browser security, as it offers a virtual buffer as a defense against most web based Malware.

The offer from Check Point is one free, full version license of the ForceField application that will be made available for download on Tuesday August 12. As many in IT and some of the more security concise users at home will know, this is the same date that Microsoft will release their monthly patches. The offer will last a full twenty-four hours.
ZoneAlarm ForceField has been reviewed in the past here on The Tech Herald, and performs quite well. The program creates a virtual bubble and virtualizes only those parts of the user’s operating system that interact with the Internet. ForceField targets and blocks unknown or unwanted changes from silent installs, better-known as drive-by downloads, as well as other Malware that targets the browser. The changes that are made to the virtualized file system disappear completely once the user is finished surfing.
“We wanted to emphasize the importance of putting a series of safety practices into place when consumers surf the Web,” said Laura Yecies, vice president and general manager for Check Point’s ZoneAlarm consumer division. “Keeping patches up-to-date is vital for maintaining optimal Web security -- but is not enough"
The ZoneAlarm ForceField promotion begins at 6 a.m. PDT on Tuesday, August 12 and ends at 6 a.m. on Wednesday, August 13. As mentioned, the offer includes a full one year license for one PC, and is limited to only one download per customer. In addition, as part of the promotion, Check Point will also offer 3-user family pack of ForceField for $19.95.
