Following on from yesterday’s story covering Palm’s accidental posting and removal of the Treo 850 Pro’s specifications list -- which could very well have been a clever marketing ploy -- it would appear that computer giant Dell has let the specs of its much talked about Mini Inspiron slip onto the Net for all to see.
Believed to be Dell’s scaled down entrant to the ultra mobile PC (UMPC) market and a direct answer to the surging popularity of the ASUS Eee PC line, details of the little Inspiron 910, which is also known as the Mini Inspiron, have this week been uncovered by the diligent industry watchers over at gadget blog Gizmodo.
According to the original post, which includes a selection of angle shots of the diminutively attractive computer, the upcoming arrival of the Inspiron 910 will be marked by support for up to 16GBs of solid state drive (SSD) storage, along with the inclusion of Intel’s new Atom processing technology and up to 1GB of RAM.
Other features will reportedly include an 8.9-inch display screen, a choice of either Windows XP or Linux-based operating systems, a 3-in-1 card reader, three USB ports, and a modest 1.3 mega pixel onboard Web camera.
There are also rumours floating around that Dell will expand its forthcoming UMPC editions to include a model equipped with a 12-inch display, which will likely be titled as the Inspiron 1210.
While not confirmed in any way by Dell, current related speculation suggests that the Inspiron 910 could well burst onto the North American market as early as August 22.
And, as for pricing, the expected monetary drain is moderate, and certainly befitting of the UMPC arena, with Gizmodo indicating that Dell’s little laptop could well carry a competitive starting tag of just $299 USD.
Core specs include a 1.6GHz N270 Atom CPU, 512MB or 1,024MB of DDR2 RAM (800MHz), 4GBs, 8GBs or 16GBs of SSD, Ubuntu or Windows XP operating systems, Bluetooth, 100Mbit Ethernet, WLAN and WWAN (HSDPA), three USB ports, a 4-cell battery, and a weight of 0.99kg with battery fitted.
