'not only are they a flash in the pan in reference to the overall world of technological success stories'
-Really? They've been around for more than 30 years, that's a big flash. I'm not an Apple fanatic, don't even own one but come on, they ARE successfull, and if they weren't, why do so many other tech companies copy them? Are they leaning toward being a monopoly? Probably, but I don't recall seeing too many other PC manufacturers that have survived for so long without protecting their business.
Mistake in the 80's? A lot of people say that, but again, had they gone the way of Mac clones like the PC did, Apple would be long gone. Even having said that, Apple has one of the biggest egos in the tech world. Love em or hate em, they aren't going anywhere anytime soon, and Windows needs to get blasted for Vista and all the other BS you have to deal with using their software-(tried the new Office yet-it sucks!). If you aren't technical enough to use something other than a Mac or Windows, such as Ubuntu, we don't have a lot of choices. So Apple is the devil, much like Microsoft, Intel, blah, blah. If history in tech has proven anything, it's ever-changing, and if said company isn't on the cutting edge, they will eventually get mowed over.

No, say it ain't so. Apple behaving like MICROSOFT, doing the same thing they accuse Gates and Balmer of?!?! ~gasp~ This is what I have said all along about Apple, not only are they a flash in the pan in reference to the overall world of technological success stories they are willing to do anything to protect their little OEM 'world'. Apple knows they are successful only by the skin of their teeth, that's it and must do what they can to protect their very temporary success. Apple made this mistake back in the 80's when they fought with Franklin and Orange Micro, etc with their Apple-compats back then, and they're doing it with Psystar and others now. What's the deal with you Apple, Mr. Jobs? You are the only people who can come up with good technological ideas? There were and are things out there that FAR exceed the capabilities of the iPhone and iPod...but because of legal threats they've never seen the light of day (kind of like the high MPG or alternative fuel auto engines that sit collecting dust on inventors' shelves that the oil industry doesn't want you to know are available, but are kept 'secret'). Patent my eye. Intel-based hardware when you finally threw in the towel on Motorola and became a Intel/PC-based computer maker like everyone else? Apple you built your friggin OSX on top of LINUX too! What did you REALLY bring to the table yourselves? OSX...ooooh! I am so overwhelmed! Please. SHUT UP ALREADY! And hey Apple, specifically, Mr. Jobs, I have to ask whether you have LEARNED yet WHY Microsoft and the whole 'PC thing' has been so successful over the last *30 YEARS* despite your irritating (yet admittedly funny) anti-PC Mac media campaign? Remember...you and your company 'Apple' have ridden this wave of success before, only to see it collapse because of 'anti-competitive' and I'd dare say 'monopolistic' behavior? Like the much cliche'd saying goes 'THOSE WHO DO NOT LEARN FROM HISTORY ARE DOOMED TO REPEAT IT'. Apple shareholders - buyer beware!
