Seems everyone and their device-making monkey wants a slice of the ultra-mobile computer (UMPC) pie these days, and with ASUS coughing out new entrants to its Eee PC line on an almost daily basis, LG Electronics has decided to further boost market choice with its new Netbook X110.
As with many budget-conscious UMPC systems, the Netbook X110 will be supported by Intel’s new 1.6GHz Atom processor, 1GB of RAM memory, choices of either an 80GB or 120GB hard drive (HDD), and also Microsoft’s Windows XP operating system (SP3) -- which has now been officially retired on desktops and conventional laptop hardware.
In terms of its physical presence and qualification for the ultra-mobile category, the Netbook X110 offers a small but solid 10-inch WSVGA display screen and weighs in at a mere 1.19kg, making it convincingly lightweight and compact for easy storage and portability.
However, despite its modest sizing, the X110 is still kitted with a full 82-key QWERTY keyboard, while on-the-go broadband access is ably provided by 3G-enabled WLAN 802.11b/g and 10/100 Ethernet connectivity.
“The next step in technological evolution from the smartphone, the X110 is leading the next wave of new telecommunication-oriented devices, featuring trendy design and embedded 3G HSPA connectivity,” enthuses LG in its official blurb.
“3G embedded features combined with WLAN 802.11 b/g and 10/100 Ethernet for stable and fast connections means users can communicate and share information any time, any way, any place.”
Other features on the little Netbook X110 include an SDHC memory card slot, a VGA port, three USB 2.0 ports and a humble 1.3 mega pixel Web camera.
Debuting at this week’s IFA Consumer Electronics trade show in Berlin, LG’s tidy little sub-notebook is set to slide onto walk-in and online retail shelves this coming October for around 399 Euros.
The Netbook X110 will initially come in choices of either pink or white -- LG promises a black version in the near future.
