The recent surge of popularity in ultra-mobile Netbook computers has The Tech Herald confidently predicting that his holiness the Pope, Paris Hilton’s pooch Tinkerbell and Simon Cowell will all be announcing their own Netbook creations in the not too distant future. But, while they’re busy working on their press releases, here comes MSI with a new Netbook duo for the pile… Yay!
Having already guffed out its original MSI Wind back in June of this year, Taiwan-based computer hardware manufacturer Micro-Star International (MSI) is now updating its compact and lightweight product line with the introduction of the new U90 and U100 Wind Netbooks.
Continuing the Wind’s portable-friendly ethos, the U90 comes equipped with an 8.9-inch LED backlit display screen, a 2.5-inch 80GB hard disk drive (HDD), and the SUSE Linux operating system. MSI indicates that the U90 will hit retail for £269 GBP.
The U100 appears more closely associated with the original Wind Netbook and includes a 10-inch LED backlit display offering a resolution of 1024x600 for “the full display of Web pages while browsing,” while also offering 80GBs of HDD storage and the Windows XP operating system. Price for the U100 is set at £319 GBP.
Interestingly, MSI has also noted that a third, currently unnamed Wind variant will be made available sporting a 120GB hard disk drive for £329 GBP. All of the newly revealed series entrants will include tweaked aesthetic design while the 80GB U100 will be offered in a special pink colour alternative.
Other core features already attributed to the Wind Netbook line and incorporated into the U90 and U100 include Intel’s 1.6GHz Atom processor, either 512MB or 1GB of DDR2 RAM, Wi-Fi 802.11b/g, optional Bluetooth 2.0 connectivity, a 0.3 or 1.3 mega pixel Web camera, a 4-in-1 card reader, and an ergonomic, finger-friendly keyboard with spaced keys.
