These new apps pose a direct threat to Apple's subscription based sync service 'cloud' the 2nd generation of the .mac concept. ( .mac service had little market traction). So apple is naturally cautious of new developments in sync tech., as it is only nature for the technology to extend to their other core apps. Apple speak doesn't jive

You forget...Sep 15th, 2008 - 13:54:27

Apple is in the business of making money...not supporting things that ultimately compete with it. If you owned a shop selling shoes and were renting out the shop next door would you rent it to someone selling shoes and competing with you?

Absolutely! Although, post purchase charge for wireless link is bull. Bill me for serve space, sure no problem, charge me for sync that even thats fine, but to force feed subscription based service for wireless sync... completely unfair. Apple should not bear the burden of cost, but should also not impede innovation of developers that willing to deliver the end user the same service more competitively.

You can buy Podcaster directly from the developer. I did yesterday. It works and it's cool.

Why dont someone create a centralize website to sell those kind of aps, for iphone, backberry, google, palm... so much easier for people to search and shop in one place. if they want the aps then they will jailbreak the iphone.

Typical anti-competitive behaviorSep 15th, 2008 - 19:19:24

So if its ok for Apple to kill applications from ipohone OS because they compete with Apple products, would it be ok if Microsoft blocks firefox and other browsers to be installed on windows because they compete with Internet Explorer's functionality, because beleiev me even MS is 'in the business of making money'. Everyone would be outraged then shouting anti-trust, throwing around lawsuits.
Its shocking to see how blind sighted some Apple apologists can be.
This is typical anti-competitive behavior. Locking operating system to hardware platform and then killing off all competition.
To all Apple Apologists - What is wrong with you people? You really don't see anything wrong with that?
To all talented iphone developers - stop coding for this closed monopoly.

What may be overlooked as a possibility here is that Apple is working on software for an upgrade that allows wireless podcast access.

Apple is undoubtedly working on an advanced/upgraded contact, calender, notes system that integrates with existing MacOS/iPhone furnished apps. This project is likely to have innovations along with hooks for 3rd party apps. They probably want to set a standard way of doing this and hence would like to hold off on 3rd party apps that might conflict with an innovative standard that gives iPhone and Macs a competitive advantage over other platforms.

I'd bet that once the new Apple enhancements and integration are released that there will be room for 3rd parties to develop add-ons or hook into the OSX 'cloud' of contacts and calendar events.

But it is unfortunate that Apple keeping it under wraps (a necessity) and having your application rejected with no explanation due to secrecy is profoundly upsetting and a loss of investment by third party developers caught up in this situation.

Ok, to the guy comparing this to Microsoft....

Yes Microsoft IS ALLOWED to refuse to host a download for Firefox, Safari, Opera, etc from THEIR OWN servers. There is nowhere that states Microsoft cannot refuse to HOST competitors programs. However, this is not the case. Those programs that compete with microsoft are distributed on their own, and this is fair.

So, Apple is hosting the Apps Store. It is THEIR STORE. They can sell whatever the heck they want in it. Just because it is an online store doesn't make it any different than a store you go to in the mall. Do you expect The Gap to sell clothing from Calvin Klein? Come off it.

I do not support what Apple is doing and the way it is acting, but fairs fair in business.

About the shoe store comparison: In fact it is often to mutual benefit when more shops with the same products are concentrated on one spot.
