Following on from Nokia’s confirmation that it will soon hop aboard the touch-screen bandwagon by releasing an Nseries smartphone edition with touch-sensitive capabilities, American mobile phone giant Motorola has revealed its new touch-screen Krave ZN4 handset.

Available through Verizon Wireless (which recently unveiled the touch-screen BlackBerry Storm), the new clamshell Krave ZN4 features not one, but two layers of touch technology. The first is situated on the interactive exterior clear flip, while the second is channelled through the internal display screen.
Offering up “the latest entertainment and phone features from Verizon,” several of which are one-touch accessible even when the phone is closed, the Krave ZN4 supports services such as V CAST Mobile TV, V CAST Video, V CAST Music with Rhapsody, VZ Navigator and Visual Voice Mail.
By utilising the clamshell’s exterior touch screen, users can gain quick access to V CAST Mobile TV, photos, and music files, and can also view incoming messages -- without ever having to physically open the handset.
“Motorola Krave is uncompromising. It delivers high-quality multimedia experiences while remaining true to the way consumers expect a phone to work and feel,” enthused Ken Hallman, vice president of Motorola Mobile Devices. “The clear, touch-enabled flip over the large, high-resolution touch-screen is nothing like you’ve seen and yet it’s totally intuitive.”
Other features provided by the Krave ZN4 include a generous 2.8-inch full colour internal display, a touch-control 2.0 mega pixel camera, a HTML Web browser, a QWERTY keyboard, support for Bluetooth stereo technology, a 3.5mm headset jack, up to 8GBs of optional memory expansion, and an integrated screen-switching accelerometer.
The V CAST Music with Rhapsody service takes advantage of more than five million songs, which can be purchased and downloaded over-the-air, with master copies dispatched straight to the user’s waiting PC (notably free of DRM protection). Existing tracks, albums and play lists can be synced to the handset through a simple USB cable connection (cable sold separately).Available for $149.99 USD after a $50 USD mail-in rebate and signing up to a two-year service contract, the Motorola Krave ZN4 offers monthly usage packages for V CAST Mobile TV, V CAST Video and V CAST Music with Rhapsody ranging from $13.00 USD to $15.00 USD. Visual Voice Mail is available for $2.99 USD per month, while VZ Navigator is available for $9.99 USD per month.
