Image: ASUS.Having already successfully run its roots deep into the burgeoning Netbook arena, Taiwan-based ASUSTeK (ASUS) is now looking to use its new P565 “business PDA” to take a little market shine off the iPhone and BlackBerry handsets. Specifically, ASUS is claiming that its P565 arrives as the quickest smartphone handset currently available thanks to the inclusion of its speedy 800MHz Marvell processor, which is offset by the Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional operating system, 3.6Mbps High-Speed Downlink Packet Access (HSDPA), and the application-rich Glide touch interface. Other features of note bundled with the stylish, leather-backed P565 include a 2.8-inch VGA touch-screen display (480x640), Wi-Fi connectivity, on-board GPS capabilities, and Microsoft Office Mobile. However, it is worth bearing in mind that BlackBery business fans may not be overly impressed at the P565's lack of a physical QWERTY keyboard. According to ASUS, the P565 “delivers graphics and system performance beyond anything else on the market at present,” which is a statement it looks to reinforce through its Marvell TavorP processor, 256MBs of Flash memory, 128MBs of DDR SDRAM, WLAN (802.11b+g), Bluetooth 2.0, a WAP browser, and storage expansion via microSD and SDHC support. Multimedia aspects are taken care of by a 3.0 mega pixel camera, 24fps QVGA video recording, and MPEG4 QVGA playback. Compatible image and audio files include JPEG, PNG, GIF, BMP, MP3, WMA, 3GP, AAC and AAC+. In terms of operational longevity, the P565 handset's 1300 mAh Li-Ion battery will supposedly provide users with three hours of 3G talk time (four hours on 2D), and up to 300 hours of 3G standby time (up to 250 with 2G). Messaging and application additions include SMS, MMS, e-mail, MSN, push e-mail, along with support for Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Windows Live, Voice Commander, Anytime Launcher, ASUS Today, EziMusic, EziPhoto, Business Card Recognition and PDF viewer.
