TiVo launches beta version of TiVo Mobile. Image: AustinPaulWhite/Flickr.If you're in the habit of forgetting to schedule your TiVo DVR box, and only remember while out and about, then if you're armed with a mobile phone handset being disconnected is about to become a blessed thing of the past. More specifically, TiVo is looking to extend the appeal of its existing service by launching the beta version of its new mobile Web site that provides TV watchers with the ability to browse, search and record their favourite shows while away from the house. The aptly named TiVo Mobile site arrives as a completely free service optimised for use on any Internet-enabled mobile phone handset (regardless of carrier or network), and it's also accessible to subscribers and non-subscribers alike. Those interested in perusing the new mobile site can do take a glance by visiting m.tivo.com, and those who want to program their DVR boxes remotely can use it to schedule TV recordings directly through their mobile phones. “TiVo started out making television a more convenient, personal experience, and this is the next step to give television lovers total control over their media.” said Jim Denney, vice president of product marketing at TiVo.

Building on TiVo's established ease of use, the mobile service is optimised for simple but effective interfacing through a small screen and enables visitors to search for programs by actor, title, director, and keyword.
It also delivers additional functions including Daily Recommendations and Most Popular, and, much like TiVo’s recommendations engine, the TiVo Mobile site features an “If you like this…” tool to help users discover new shows that fit with their preferences.
Although anyone can browse the TiVo Mobile service, remote scheduling is compatible with Series2 and Series3 TiVo boxes.
