Blockbuster partners with 2Wire for new on-demand player. Image: Blockbuster. With digital distribution posing a considerable threat to the future of its business, leading video rental service Blockbuster has partnered with broadband specialist 2Wire to offer customers quick and easy access to a wealth of on-demand movie and TV content. Including thousands of titles ranging from the latest releases through to all-time classics, the 2Wire MediaPoint digital media player is described as providing an “easy-to-use” connection between regular televisions and the expansive Blockbuster OnDemand service. While plenty of other subscription services provide 'new' content that's far from new when it's finally made available, the new Blockbuster OnDemand model is being sold on it offering genuine “hot new releases, many available within weeks of leaving theaters.” In terms of pricing, Blockbusters' on-demand movies will be delivered for viewing for as little as $1.99 USD after the customer has completed their first 25 rentals. And, to add a little extra pre-seasonal spice to the burgeoning delivery partnership, interested Blockbuster customers can take advantage of a temporary service deal that will deliver the MediaPoint digital media player without charge alongside the advance rental of those 25 Blockbuster OnDemand movies for a price of $99 USD.
