In an effort to spread around some extra security this holiday season, The Tech Herald has teamed up with VeriSign in order to offer 25 VeriSign Identity Protection (VIP) tokens. The tokens are about $5.00 USD on average, but VeriSign has allowed us to hand them out to our readers.

The tokens are the same kind that PayPal offers, and once registered to your PayPal account you will have an added layer of protection, which would stop account compromises due to your username and password being stolen.
The contest is a simple one. You only need to contact us (security [--at--] thetechherald.com) and tell us one of two things. What you plan to use the token for, or a story of how the added layer of security offered by the token could have prevented a security problem you faced in your past.
There will also be one person who will get the Security Card instead of a token. The card has a retail value of $48.00 USD, and works the same way as the token. Its credit card shape allows you to keep it in a wallet or purse for safe access.
There is a growing list of sites where you can use the token; including PayPal, eBay, AOL, and Teachers Credit Union. VeriSign says that the list expands all the time, as more banks and business join the VIP network.
The giveaway starts today and will end Friday December 5, 2008.
More information about the token or card can be found on the VeriSign website.
