With the eagerly awaited multi-platform release of Resident Evil 5 looming large, renowned Japanese publisher Capcom has announced a PlayStation 3 hardware bundle designed to drum up consumer interest yet further.

Labelled as a “Premium Limited Edition” of Sony’s powerhouse home console, the branded bundle will include an 80GB console along with two wireless control pads and a copy of Resident Evil 5 (or Biohazard 5 as it is known in Japan).
The limited edition offer is expected to carry a retail price of 48,980 Yen (approx. $525 USD). However, trade publication MCV notes that Capcom has no immediate plans to release the bundle outside of the Japanese market.
The emergence of the limited-edition hardware bundle follows yesterday’s announcement by Microsoft Corp. that prospective Xbox 360 owners in the Japanese territory will be presented with the temptation of a similarly branded bundle.
The Xbox 360 version will include a 60GB version of Microsoft’s console, a single wireless controller, an Xbox Live headset, and the “Deluxe Edition” of Capcom’s game. The bundle will also include a redeemable code enabling access to an exclusive Biohazard 5 theme from Xbox Live.
The Microsoft bundle will undercut Sony’s considerably, arriving for 34,800 Yen (approx. $380 USD).
Resident Evil 5 is a third-person survival horror title that promises to push the boundaries on Capcom’s long-running flagship franchise by taking returning series character Chris Redfield to Africa, the very source of the deadly T-virus outbreak.
Resident Evil 5 is due to hit retail in Japan on March 05, with North America and Europe receiving it on March 13.
