Hey Sony, let me stream Netflix with your device please. The PS store is great for games, but terrible for video!!

Vernon,
Sorry to destroy your hopes, but I think Sony has missed the boat on that one + PS3 doesn't need Netflix at all (from Sony POV).
3 good reasons why not:
1. Netflix comes on XBOX/Microsoft already. My guess would be, some exclusive rights by MS for Netflix. MS will be willing to pay to get it, to compensate on HD misfortune and will be able to get some money back through Live subscription.
2. Netflix player is currently designed for Windows/IE platform, so even if Sony/Netflix wanted it will take some time + money to port it into Yellow Dog/Linux.
3. Last reason that easily can be the first one, Sony is a Hollywood studio that needs to sells it's own DVD/Blue-ray movies.

I like the idea of photo gallery but i have no internet connection on my PS3 so i cannot download the data required to use it. I have had so many problems trying to get connected, i have given up.

What format must the images be in to be able to be imported into Playstation 3 Photo Gallery via a USB flash drive? Images that view fine on a PC do not seem to recognised by Photo Gallery.
