If you’ve not yet sampled the sandbox delights of Grand Theft Auto IV, and the recent rush of BAFTA videogame award nominations isn’t sufficient incentive for you to splash the cash, then perhaps free access to Xbox Live might see you heading for the nearest game stockist.

More pointedly, software publisher Microsoft has revealed this week that, apart from delivering up to 20 hours of extra gameplay, the long awaited Grand Theft Auto IV: The Lost and Damned downloadable expansion will also include a six-day open door to Xbox Live.
Online access to the expansion’s multiplayer aspects will begin at 9:00am (PST) on February 17 and end at 11:59pm on February 22 – although access will be restricted to Rockstar’s popular crime caper.
According to a related GameSpot report, owners of the original Grand Theft Auto IV will also have free access to the game’s default multiplayer modes during the six-day period.
The first of two much-vaunted Xbox 360 expansion exclusives secured by Redmond-based Microsoft in return for a reported $50 million USD, The Lost and Damned will focus on characters other than the game’s central protagonist Niko Belic. The expansion download will cost eager fans 1600 Microsoft Points (the equivalent of $19.99 USD).
Microsoft and developer Rockstar Games are also looking to drum up further interest in Grand Theft Auto IV by running a Lost and Damned sweepstakes opportunity offering a grand prize of a Samsung 52-inch 1080p LCD high-definition television and a Samsung 1200W 5.1 XM-Ready home theatre system with an up-converting DVD player.
Other prizes include six custom-made Grand Theft Auto IV Xbox 360 Elite consoles and six $500 USD Best Buy gift vouchers.
